BALTIMORE (AP) – Rafael Devers has homer and the Boston Red Sox twice in the 10th over on a wild field and an RBI single by Christian Vázquez to extend their winning streak to five games with a win of 6-4 at the Baltimore Orioles Saturday night.
“It’s a great atmosphere,” Boston manager Alex Cora said. ‘A lot of people do not feel that we have superstars. This is a good baseball team. They did everything right at the end of the game. ”
Outfielder Trey Mancini in Baltimore has made his first home game since returning from a cancer operation that missed him in the 2020 season. It was Mancini’s first visitor since September 28, 2019.
“Our dugout exploded when he hit the homer,” said Orioles manager Brandon Hyde. “There seemed to be a lot of relief for Trey who then came into the excavation.”
The Orioles twice managed in the eighth score to take a 4-3 lead on the choice of a fielder by Maikel Franco and an RBI single by Freddy Galvis of Adam Ottavino. Boston tied it in the ninth by choosing a fielder by Bobby Dalbec against César Valdez, who converted his two previous save chances.
“As soon as I hit it, I just flew. … I mean, fly for me, ‘says Dalbec, batting just .095 this year. “I knew it was a big time, of course, and I was just trying to get rid of it.”
Michael Chavis, who was recalled from the alternate training ground earlier in the day, entered as a biker in the 10th and scored at a low pitch by Dillon Tate (0-1) who rolled to the backstop. Vázquez added an insurance with Wade LeBlanc.
Matt Barnes (1-0) passes two in the ninth and Matt Andriese deserves Boston’s first save of the season.
Devers had two RBIs for the Red Sox, winning for the first time since August 2019 five consecutive games. They opened the season with three consecutive losses.
The Orioles were 1 for 13 with runners in points standings.
Boston led 2-0 in the first place. Devers hit an RBI single and then picked first, but stayed in a break long enough to get Xander Bogaerts to score second.
Mancini and Anthony Santander responded with Garrett Richards in the bottom half.
Devers broke the deadlock with a towering homer in the right-center of rookie-left-hander Bruce Zimmermann in the sixth.
Zimmermann, a Maryland native who grew up for the Orioles, began his third career, but it was his first game at Camden Yards with fans attending (9,307). Zimmermann allowed three runs and seven shots with four shots and a run over six overs.
“All in all, it was an outpouring of support that a hometown kid can only dream of having behind the ballpark,” Zimmermann said. “It was just incredibly special to hear it and to hear the crowd call me by name in the first shift when I was announced and all, it was pretty amazing.”

Red Sox: DH / OF JD Martinez has cold symptoms and was placed on the COVID-19 injured list. Martinez has undergone tests and the team is waiting for the results. “We believe he will be with us again (Sunday),” Cora said.
Orioles: OR DJ Stewart (left thigh muscle) has recovered from the 10-day IL. He has not played since March 5. “I was worried it would be a lot longer,” Stewart said before the game.

Red Sox: RHP Nick Pivetta (1-0, 0.00 ERA) begins his first career at Camden Yards. He was solid in his debut of the season and on Monday threw five pointless innings of a two-ball in an 11-2 victory over the Rays.
Orioles: RHP Jorge Lopez (0-1) will try to avoid the fight against Boston. He struggled in his last start, with four runs, three strokes and three runs over 4 2/3 overs in a 7-0 losing loss to the Yankees.
