The 14-page supporters of Trump’s defense attorneys, David Schoen and Bruce Castor, argue that it is unconstitutional to accuse a former president and that Trump’s remarks were not directly to blame for the deadly uprising at the Capitol on January 6 not.
The lawyers have outlined the defense they will set up next week when the trial begins in the upper chamber. Senators will weigh a single article of indictment passed by the House last month, in which Trump is accused of inciting insurgency with his remarks before the riot in the Capitol.
