Ravens says cornerback Jimmy Smith, safe for family, after being robbed of a gun in California

OWINGS MILLS, Md. Jimmy Smith, cornerback for Baltimore Ravens, told the team that he and his family were robbed of a gun on Tuesday after being chased from Los Angeles International Airport.

“We are aware of the situation Jimmy Smith is involved in,” the Ravens said in a statement. “We talked to Jimmy and he and his family are safe.”

No other details were given by the team.

Spokesmen for the Los Angeles Police Department and the sheriff of LA said they were not aware of the incident and that they did not have a police report. LAX police did not immediately return a phone message from ESPN.

The Athletic first reported on the incident in which Smith and his family were involved.

Smith, 32, has spent his entire 10-year career at Baltimore after making his first-choice pick in 2011. On January 1, he signed a $ 2.5 million extension with the Ravens for one year.
