Ingram would have paid $ 5 million next year, which was the last of his contract.
The news of Ingram’s imminent release comes on the same day that the team announced the release of veteran rugby quarterback Robert Griffin III.
After an excellent eight-year tenure with the New Orleans Saints in which he amassed several Pro Bowl appearances and two 1,000-yard campaigns, Ingram signed a three-year deal with the Ravens before the 2019 season. The contract included an opt-out for 2021.
Ingram’s 1,018 yards in 2019 were second in the team behind fullback Lamar Jackson and helped strongly in Baltimore to set a regular season record for rushing yards.
Baltimore was again the NFL leader on the ground in 2020, but Ingram’s role has greatly diminished. He was inactive in the team’s season-ending loss to the Bills, along with the playoff game against the Titans. His last game was Week 17, in which he had 39 yards on nine times after being inactive the previous two weeks. He had just 299 yards on 72 runs for the season when Jackson took the lead again and rookie JK Dobbins and Gus Edwards each finished with 700 plus yards.
The first pick in the first round in 2011 and the former three-time Pro Bowler could potentially leave life in his legs, as the Ravens were a busy, league-best backfield in terms of production.
So far, Ingram’s legs have driven him to 7,324 careers and 62 touchdowns. We’ll see where they’re going to carry him next.
