Ravens get two compensatory choices in 2021 Draft

Free agencies are around the corner, but there are few things do general manager Eric DeCosta like more than to get additional drafts, and he added two more Wednesday.

The Ravens received two compensatory picks for the 2021 NFL Draft – one in the third round (No. 105 overall) and one in the fifth round (No. 184).

Baltimore now has seven concepts in what is considered a concept that is very strong and deep in the Ravens’ most important needs. Here are the Ravens’ current choices:

  • 1st round: no. 27
  • 2nd: No. 58
  • 3rd: No. 105 (compensatory)
  • 4th: no. 132
  • 5th: No. 172, no. 184 (compensatory)
  • 6th: No. 209

“Numerically, it looks very similar to last year’s concept of good prospects,” DeCosta said Tuesday. “We feel really good about our chances, we just wish we had more choices. We now have seven choices, and hopefully we have the chance to collect a few more.”

The Ravens already knew they would get another pick in the third round after David Culley was appointed by the Houston Texans to be their new head coach. This is part of the league’s new rule to promote diversity in hiring.

The confirmation that came Wednesday was the fifth round, which is the result of the loss of defensive attack Michael Pierce (Minnesota Vikings) out of season in 2020.

The Ravens’ signing of unlimited free agent Derek Wolfe last season likely canceled out the additional loss of wide receiver Seth Roberts (Carolina). Baltimore also lost linebackers Patrick Onwuasor (New York Jets) and Josh Bynes (Cincinnati) as a free agent, but they were not eligible for compensation.

Although Pierce chose to play last season due to the COVID-19 selection, he still qualified for the compensation formula. Pierce has signed a reported $ 27 million deal for three years.

Baltimore is the king of compensatory selection and has put together the most in the league (53) since the system began in 1994. The closest team is the Dallas Cowboys (47), who have won a four-game competition this year. The Ravens will also get a compensatory choice for the loss to Culley next year.
