Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is making the PS5 work with new weapons, including new ways to make each gun feel unique with detailed haptic feedback.
We spoke to Insomniac Games about the upcoming exclusive PS5 series for our latest spotlight Big in 2021, and you can not talk about Ratchet & Clank without talking about its range of cartoon weapons. Game director Mike Daly told us how DualSense ‘gives the team’ powerful new tools to take the unique personality of each weapon even further ‘.
“The customizable triggers not only give us another channel for weapons to feel unique, but in some cases, extra features are made possible,” Daly explained. “By partially pulling or honoring the trigger, it gives us a way to give nuance to weapon functions that were simply not possible before the trigger itself could not give feedback. For example, our Burst Pistol can be accurately fired by the trigger on pull up to a middle threshold, or you can take out to go at the expense of accuracy.
“It’s much more intuitive to have this secondary feature directly on the trigger than for players to learn different buttons for it, it’s so much easier for you to get into the flow of battles and execute advanced strategies without having to go through the controls. think.”
As another example, Insomniac has determined that players are still doing well in tracking feedback, even though there is a lot going on on the screen at the same time (which is pretty standard for the fast-paced combat of the Ratchet series), so it’s perfect to use to indicate when slower weapons are ready to fire again. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will be released sometime in the first half of this year, so keep your DualSense loaded until then.
