Five years after Jared Goff made first place in the draft, the Rams traded the quarterback to the Detroit Lions for quarterback Matthew Stafford on Saturday, a person with knowledge of the situation said.
As part of the deal, the Rams also sent the Lions a third pick for the Lions this year and two future first-round picks.
Stafford, who turns 33 on February 7, was the first choice in the 2009 draft. He has been selected to the Pro Bowl once in the 12 seasons and is 0-3 in three playoff games. Unlike the receiver, Calvin Johnson, however, Stafford has never played with a surplus talent.
Stafford passed 45,109 yards and 282 touchdowns, with 144 interceptions. This season, he passed for 4,084 yards and 26 touchdowns, with 10 interceptions.
Stafford has two more years on its contract and will have $ 33 million in 2021 and $ 26 million in 2022 in 2022, according to overthecap.com. Ownership of Stafford and Lions reportedly agreed to trade him.
Goff, 26, has won the Pro Bowl twice and led the Rams to three playoffs in four seasons with coach Sean McVay, who reached the 2018 Super Bowl.
Prior to the 2019 season, he signed a $ 134 million extension with $ 110 million guarantees. Since then, its production has declined.
This season, he passes for a career-low 20 touchdown, with 13 interceptions, as the Rams finish 10-6.
