Ralph Fiennes, who played Lord Voldemort in four of the Harry Potter films, she has support for JK Rowling in an interview with The Telegraph Published Wednesday. “I do not understand the vitriol aimed at her,” Fiennes said. ‘I can understand the heat of an argument, but I find this era of accusation and the need to condemn irrationally. I find the level of hatred people express about views that differ from them, and the violence of language towards others disturbing. ‘Fiennes’ reaction to the controversy contrasts with the reactions of his costar from the Harry Potter Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, who all expressed support for the transgender community following Rowling’s comments. In June, Rowling published a 3,670-word blog post outlining her stance on transgender issues, claiming, among other things, the inclusion of trans women in women’s bathrooms is a threat to ‘wet girls and women’. On Twitter, she also called the use of hormones and sex reassignment surgery “a new kind of conversion therapy.”
