Raiders QB Marcus Mariota generates trading interest

Derek Carr is not the only Raiders full-back to generate commercial interest. Nan.com’s Ian Rapoport Reports (via Twitter) that teams have “legal and real” commercial interest in backup Marcus Mariota.

Mariota joined the Raiders last season on a two-year, $ 17.6 million deal. He had an IR series in September and October, and he did not leave the bench until the Raiders’ Week 15 defeat for the Chargers. Mariota completes 17 of his 28 pass attempts for 226 yards, one touch and one interception in that game, and he adds another score and 88 yards on the ground. Rapoport says exceptional performance has caught the attention of other teams, and some organizations believe Mariota may have a similar career as Ryan Tannehill (which, of course, revived his career after replacing Mariota in Tennessee).

Mariota showed a glimpse of the promise during his five seasons in Tennessee, but he was obviously disappointed in light of his pedigree of the second overall pick. The full-back led 18-16 in his last three seasons with the Titans, but he also had just 31 assists versus 25 interceptions.

We learned earlier this week that teams inquired about Carr, and reports indicated that the Raiders were willing to listen to offers on their starting lineup. Rapoport explains that although the Raiders do not want any team to hang up the phone, they are not keen on continuing from the 29-year-old, and a deal for Carr would be ‘incredibly expensive’.
