Several 49ers players still believe in 49ers full-back Jimmy Garoppolo. Even if the 49ers do not.
49ers tighthead George Kittle spoke out in favor of the troubled Garoppolo on Tuesday. 49ers also ran Raheem Mostert back.
“Hey look, this is my quarterback to different, you know, and this is who I’m going to ride with,” Mostert said Tuesday on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “And so the players feel. . . . As for the business side, many players do not have the ins and outs. They know nothing. And that is now the case for me. I do not know whose future in San Francisco is going to be in danger. I do not know if we are going to trade for Deshaun [Watson], who knows, do you know? The only people who know are the front office and the GM and the owner and the head coach, you know? But this league is changing and it’s crazy, man, to see, you know, all the mobile quarterbacks out there. But hey, like I said, I’m still driving with my quarterback and that’s number 10. He’s going to do the work for us, and that’s what we believe in. ‘
The organization clearly seems to feel differently, as 49ers chased back Matthew Stafford and in light of the 49ers’ ability to move on against Garoppolo at a minimal cost.
Where the 49ers go from here remains to be seen. An industry for Kirk Cousins? An act for Sam Darnold? Development of Josh Rosen? The 49ers seem to have at least one “everyone but Garoppolo” vote. Even though players like Kittle and Mostert do not want anyone else.
