Queen Noor, mother of detained Jordanian Prince Hamzah, blames ‘Wicked Slander’ for detaining Son

Queen Noor, the American-born mother of Jordan’s former Crown Prince Hamzah, has denounced ‘wicked slander’ of her son, who says he is under house arrest. Noor tweeted: “To pray that truth and justice will apply to all the innocent victims of this wicked blasphemy. God bless and preserve them. The former Crown Prince said in a video broadcast on the BBC that he was under house arrest and that several of his friends had been arrested and that his security details had been removed. The Jordanian army said Hamzah, who now has no official role in the kingdom, was asked to stop a number of activities that could be used to shake up Jordan’s stability and security. ‘Jordanian official Ayman Safadi told reporters on Sunday that Hamzah had teamed up with influential figures at home and abroad “on the appropriate time to take steps to shake up the security of our challenging Jordan.”

The army has denied detaining the former crown prince, who is accused of criticizing the King of Jordan, King Abdullah II, and said the kingdom was “thwarted by corruption, nepotism and injustice”. Meanwhile, Jordan’s critical allies in the Gulf region joined Jordan’s action and expressed support for the king.
