Queen Elizabeth will not relinquish despite the death of Prince Philip, claims former senior assistant: ‘She will continue’

Four days after she lost her husband Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth II resumed work.

The British monarch attended a retirement ceremony for a senior royal official on Tuesday. The news comes from the Court Circular, the official report of royal engagements.

The announcement did not surprise a former senior assistant.

“Her family will act and be by her side, but she will continue,” the palace source told People magazine on Wednesday. ‘She understands she has a job to do, and [Philip] would have wanted her to crack. She did so when he retired from public life. ‘

“She will never give up because of duty and honor, and public service is as deep for her as it is for him,” another royal insider told the outlet.

The royal family is considering two weeks of mourning for the Duke of Edinburgh, who died on Friday at the age of 99. The palace said members of the royal family would ‘make appointments appropriate to the circumstances’ during the mourning period.

The Queen, 94, attended a ceremony at Windsor Castle for Lord Chamberlain Earl Peel, who retired as a senior official of the royal household. He oversaw the arrangements for the funeral of Prince Philip, also known as the Duke of Edinburgh, until he handed over to his successor days before the Duke’s death.

Prince William shared a similar sentiment on Monday about his gripping tribute to Philip.

“I will miss my Grandpa, but I know he wants us to get on with the job,” the 38-year-old wrote.

People magazine said that Elizabeth had reduced her public involvement in the past year due to the coronavirus pandemic, but that she had been accompanied by family members recently. In October, she and William teamed up to visit a top-level laboratory.

The outlet added that the Queen retired solo at the end of March to celebrate the Centenary of the Royal Australian Air Force at the CWGC Air Forces Memorial in Surrey.

Philip’s funeral will take place on Saturday in Windsor Castle, with limited attendance up to 30 due to coronavirus restrictions.

Officials from the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Army and Royal Air Force are taking part in the funeral procession, and Philip’s coffin will be transported to St. Petersburg on a specially adapted Land Rover, which he designed himself.

Philip is survived by the Queen and their four children – Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward – as well as eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
