Queen Elizabeth makes the first public statement since Prince Philip’s death

Queen Elizabeth II announced her first public solo statement since the death of her husband, Prince Philip, on Friday 9 April.

Her Majesty issued a statement of support to the people of the land of St. Vincent and the Grenadines of the Commonwealth sent after experiencing a series of volcanic eruptions.

“I am saddened by the devastation and great disruption caused by volcanic eruptions in recent days, and my thoughts are with the many people and families who have been evacuated from their homes and whose livelihoods have been affected,” the queen said in her statement obtained by Fox News. “I thank the emergency services and all those involved in the emergency relief.”

“My prayers will remain with the residents of St. Vincent and the Grenadines at this very difficult time,” she added.

Normally, her statements started with ‘The Duke of Edinburgh and I’.

La Soufriere volcano is located in the northern region of the island and has forced people to evacuate due to ash falling on the city.

Prince Philip died on 9 April in Windsor Castle. He was 99.

He and the Queen had been married for 73 years and he was the longest-serving spouse in British history.

Since April 9, Queen Elizabeth has been in the middle of an eight-day period of mourning until the funeral scheduled for April 17 at Windsor Castle.

“It is with deep sadness that Her Majesty the Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh,” her statement read at the time. “His Royal Highness passed away peacefully at Windsor Castle this morning.”

Attendance at Philip’s funeral was limited to 30 due to coronavirus restrictions.

On Thursday, it was revealed that senior royals should wear civilian clothes after the funeral, and should defuse the potential tension over who may wear military uniforms.

The list of participants includes Prince Charles, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward, Princess Ann, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

Meghan Markle was advised by a doctor not to attend due to her pregnancy.
