Puerto Rico will close public and private schools by covid-19

(CNN Español) – In a few months, some of Puerto Rico’s public and private schools are reuniting classes in the midst of the covid-19 pandemic, the Secretary of Health designated Carlos Mellado announced that starting April 12, the institutions tend to adopt virtual modality.

Mellado explained in a statement that the decision was “before the case and hospitalizations by covid-19, and in addition to our need to save the security of our children”. Every educational system, as public as private, requires the adoption of a virtual modeling tool for education on weekdays. “This decision was made in conversation with Governor Pedro Pierluisi and the secretary of the Department of Education, Elba Aponte,” said Mellado.

The spokesman for Education Press, Alexis Ramos, informs that at present the 93 public schools have been rehabilitated.

The attendance classes at the public and private schools of Puerto Rico will be canceled in March 2020 through the confirmation of the first covid-19 cases in the island. Since then, the classes have been improvised in a remote manner.

At the end of February, Governor Pierluisi issued a decree ordering that from March 1 allow the gradual and partial repertoire of the public and private school system, in addition to the established and published protocols. Department of Health.

As of April 8, the Department of Health of Puerto Rico has confirmed 100,079 positive cases of covid-19, 100,236 suspected cases, 10,600 probable cases and 2,141 deaths.
