A PUBG sequel, in one form or another, is expected to arrive for computers and consoles by 2022. This is a different game from the mobile PUBG: New State, a futuristic battle royal game unveiled this past week.
Famous PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds dataminer PlayerIGN (no relationship with IGN or its affiliates) tweeted that New State is not the PUBG 2 of the same name that has been expected for some time now. In response to someone asking if New State is the sequel we’ve been waiting for, PlayerIGN replies: ‘The PUBG 2 thing (PC / console) is something we’re still waiting for in 2022.
He said that New State will at least stay on mobile devices for the time being, and that it is not expected to be available with any of the other versions of PUBG. This is in line with a January report that a mobile game is available this year, and a new PUBG release next year. PUBG: New State was developed by PUBG Corp and published by Krafton Inc., dropping players on a new 8 × 8 card called Troy. Offered in 2051, it features futuristic vehicles, more destructive environments, and according to the initial press release, players can “enjoy the next generation of survival features that the battlefield develops.”
This is the first step towards a broader PUBG universe that Krafton is gradually assembling. Last December, it was revealed that The Callisto Protocol, a single-player horror game from former Dead Space developers, takes place 300 years into PUBG’s future.
