Paris Saint-Germain have taken revenge on Bayern Munich, who eliminated the UEFA Champions League winners in 2020 in a rematch of last season’s final.
PSG turned a 3-2 lead into the second leg, and it was those three goal kicks that pushed the French champions through to their second consecutive UCL semi-final, and Bayern’s 1-0 win over Paris on Tuesday at a 3 -3-score.
In the first ten minutes, PSG showed that he would not just sit back and defend his lead of one goal. While fireworks went off outside the Parc des Princes, Kylian Mbappé showed a lot of spark against Bayern. In the third minute, he almost scored before putting Neymar’s close, albeit outside, chance in front of the goal.
As the French champions had already missed key players in Mauro Icardi and first-leg goal scorer Marquinhos, Ángel Di María continued to limp after receiving treatment on his leg in the 19th minute. However, the Argentine persevered and immediately played a beautifully played pass in the box for Neymar who went wrong.
In the 26th minute, PSG goalkeeper Keylor Navas almost gave Bayern a lifeline when his foul throw finally created an excellent chance for Leroy Sané, whose curling effort sailed from outside the box just wide of the posts.
PSG did not have the best chance in the first half, when Mbappé led a counter-attack on the left and attracted defenders before delivering a slow pass to a wide open Neymar. But Manuel Neuer realizes the danger and comes up with a big save to keep the game pointless at half time.
Neuer once again denied Neymar after the Brazilian had enchanted Bayern’s defenders in the 34th with a series of attacks, but his shot could not overtake Neuer at the nearest point.
In the 36th, Neymar hit a shot that knocked Neuer but hit the crossbar. The former Barcelona star continued to terrorize Bayern, but was once again unhappy when he battled in the 39th position.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who filled in for the injured Robert Lewandowski, once again succeeded against his former team to give Bayern the lead in the 40th minute. On a loose ball in front of goal, Choupo-Moting outscored Presnel Kimpembe to come to the back of Navas and went home to make it 3-3.
Bayern needed another goal to penetrate, thanks to PSG’s three away goals, and flew out of the half-time gates. David Alaba’s wide burst of 20 meters in the 47th minute made PSG fans hold their breath as it zipped wide.
PSG had to subject Abdou Diallo to injury in the 59th minute due to injury. In Champions League rookie Mitchel Bakke, the 20-year-old former Ajax left-winger, Thomas Müller and Leroy Sané restricted.
Moise Kean came on for Julian Draxler in the 72nd minute and had a great chance to put PSG on a counter-attack even five minutes later, but he created the effort. Mbappé followed up the chance with one of his own in the 79th and blew the ball in the back of the net before a very delayed outside call – surely a result of the hurried outside call from the sideline in the first half which the French star a wide-ranging target.
Thomas Müller had the best chance for the second half for Bayern in the 86th minute during a scramble in the PSG box, but the shooting of the German playmaker was deftly blocked by Kimpembe as Bayern pushed forward.
Navas slashed the last chance at Bayern in the last minute of extra time and cut off a Sané pass that burst over the box before rounding the clock, with PSG succeeding on away goals.
Here were the lineups for both teams:
PSG will play either Manchester City or Borussia Dortmund in the semi-final. Man City have a 2-1 lead after Wednesday’s second game in Germany.
