White House press secretary Jen Psaki apparently shrugged off President Biden’s previous comments on Major League Baseball that took his All-Star game out of Georgia on Monday.
Last week, before the MLB said it would retire in response to state law, Biden said he would “strongly support” baseball players to move the game.
“I think today’s professional athletes are acting incredibly responsibly. I would strongly support them to do that,” Biden told ESPN last week. “People look at them. These are leaders. The people who are most victimized are the leaders in these different sports.”

Sage Steele, ESPN, referred to Tony Clark, executive director of the MLB Players Association, and said he was looking forward to moving the All-Star Game out of Atlanta due to the law. “So, Mr. President, what do you think of the possibility that baseball will decide to move their All-Star game out of Atlanta because of this political issue?”
During Monday’s press briefing, Psaki repeated Biden’s words, but stated them as support for the league’s ability to decide for itself. “Well, he supports that they can make the decision and respond to what their players ask, a lot of them are obviously affected by these laws,” she said.
She later told Peter Doocy of Fox News that the context of ESPN’s question ‘was around the league meeting to discuss this exact issue’.

Doocy followed by asking if Biden would support moving the Masters tournament out of Georgia if the Professional Golf Association (PGA) players were left behind.
“I’m sure you will ask me the question, or a question to him,” Psaki replied, “but our focus is to do what we can to make voting in the country easier and more accessible,” and this is where our efforts to get out of the White House go. ‘
