Psaki responds to Biden over false claims in Georgia elections

White House press secretary Jen Psaki was reprimanded by liberal and conservative members of the media on Monday over President Biden’s opposition to a new law on Georgia, after earning ‘Pinocchios’ from fact-checkers for the false statements about the provisions thereof.

Biden called on Major League Baseball last week to move its July all-star game from Atlanta in protest, and MLB accepted the advice and outraged Republicans who say the law was inaccurately portrayed and attacked.

Biden is awarded ‘Four Pinocchios’ by the Washington Post, which endorsed his candidacy for spreading misinformation about the impact of the state law on voting walls.

The law does not change the hour of election day, but expands early voting by adding a second mandatory Saturday. It also confirms that provinces have the option to open two Sundays and allow the provinces to extend the early voting hours outside normal working hours.

Fox Doosy, a Fox News reporter, asked Psaki on Monday at her daily press briefing about Biden’s inaccurate remarks, including during the ESPN interview in which he voiced support for the Atlanta boycott.

‘Is the president going to change the way he talks about the new voting rights in Georgia? Because in that interview you referred to, he said that the law would end at five o’clock if working people just went down and he would say that the voting hours would end early so that working people could not cast their vote after their shift was over “but the Washington Post gave the clam ‘four Pinocchios’ because part of the law gives provinces the option to extend the voting walls,” Doocy asked.

Psaki replied that ‘the president fundamentally does not believe that it should be more difficult to vote, but he believes that it should be easier. And this bill makes it harder to request and return a ballot for absentees, it collapses during the by-elections in Georgia, making it harder for major jurisdictions to present early ballots. It places rigid new restrictions on the ability of local officials to determine the voting walls according to the needs of the voters in their country. These are all pieces of the account. His view, therefore, is that we should make it easier and not harder to vote, and that it will remain what he advocates. ”

Georgia law requires a photo ID to get an absentee ballot and shortens the time period for absentee voting. It also allows civil servants to take over local election offices in response to alleged misconduct.

Another reporter, CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, asked Psaki in a follow-up question: ‘The president does admit that the new law does not change the voting hours of election day, does it? ‘

Psaki then said that he apparently repeated the statement that Biden had made to the Pinocchios: ‘It does not extend them to early voting either. This shortens early voting. So there are many components of the legislation that he is concerned about, and that is what he has expressed. ”
