PSA: Uninstall Android System WebView to Fix Crashing Apps

A large number of Android users have experienced continuous shutdown of the app over the past few hours, and some find that the crash of uninstalling Android System WebView will stop.

This issue starts with Android alerts warning how apps ‘keep closing’. Applications that are in the background and not yet open are also affected.

If this error affects your device, all Android applications using the WebView system component, which is responsible for displaying web content and updated with Chrome every few weeks, will continue to crash. These include Gmail – which many users are currently viewing, various Google services and many other third-party applications.

The immediate solution to this problem involves finding the Play Store list for Android System WebView by visiting this link directly, or by going to the “My Apps and Games” page, scrolling to the left to the “Installed” tab, and scroll down – this should be one of the first apps. Then tap “Remove” and confirm with the prompt that appears.

  1. Launch the Google Play Store and go to My apps & games
  2. Open the “installed” download and tap on Android System WebView
  3. Tap Remove
  4. Confirm “Remove”
  5. Restart the device

If for some reason it does not work, go another way of systems go to System Settings> Applications & Notifications> See all applications> Android System WebView> tap on the three-point overflow menu in the top right corner> Remove updates> OK . These instructions are for Android 11 on Pixel phones, but should be a similar process on other OS versions and OEM devices.

If you follow these steps, the series of accidents with Samsung support must be stopped recommended same action today. It does not affect all users, but it is quite widespread on Pixel and other devices.

Google seems to have built in a bad update of Android System WebView. While this particular version is buggy, it’s important to keep WebView on the latest version for security solutions once the issue is resolved.
