PS5 updates again as a PS2-themed PlayStation 5 console to launch Friday

The PS5 is generally not currently available at major retailers, but a limited edition console inspired by the PlayStation 2 is on the way. While Walmart, Target and Best Buy are currently sold out, third-party seller SUP3R5 will launch a retro-inspired PS5 console tomorrow.

Discover below everything you need to know about the PS2 theme PS5, plus the latest updates on the PS5 situation at official retailers. Remember that the PS2-inspired console is not directly connected to Sony, so you will have to wait until an official retailer is back in stock.

PS2 theme PS5

SUP3R5 will release a limited number of PS2-themed black PS5s on Friday, January 8 at 3pm EST. The retailer will release 304 consoles as a tribute to the PS2 launch day on March 4, 2000.

The retro-inspired PS5 console costs $ 749, while the digital edition costs $ 649 and will be limited to one per customer. The console has one controller and an additional controller costs $ 100 extra.

SUP3R5 aims to prevent PS5 consoles from being bought out by scalpers in limited edition. SUP3R5 said it would cancel the pre-orders of anyone offering the console on the sales sites, and cancel the orders of those trying to buy more than one console and two controller limit, including multiple orders heading to the same address is.

Go to the SUP3R5 website and create a profile to save your information, to prepare you for the PS2 theme PS5 tomorrow. On Twitter, SUP3R5 said: “We encourage you to get through the checkout as quickly as possible.”

Furthermore, SUP3R5 said that the consoles will be shipped by late spring, but this could be delayed if the retailer prefers to make more consoles available. In a Twitter poll, gamers voted that SUP3R5 should make more PS2-themed PS5 consoles, even if it would wait longer for delivery.

Finally, since the PS2-inspired PS5 is not officially paired with Sony, buyers will buy the console at their own risk. SUP3R5 is a third party company and there is a chance that Sony will discontinue the business before the consoles are shipped. Plus, the DualSense controller is disassembled during the modification process, which means Sony’s warranty does not apply.

Keep that in mind if you want the chance to get your hands on this retro attack on the next generation PlayStation console. Otherwise, keep reading for updates on official PlayStation 5 retailers.
