PS5 DualSense Controller Drift: US Law Firm Packing Class Action

A US law firm that has already filed a class action lawsuit against Nintendo over Joy-Con drift is now investigating a similar case against Sony, alleging that analog stick drift is in the PS5 DualSense controller. Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith LLP have compiled a questionnaire page asking PS5 owners to report cases of power (in which the console registers stock input even if the controller is not touched).

“CSK & D is investigating a potential group action based on reports that Sony PS5 DualSense controllers for the PlayStation 5 console may experience drive issues and / or fail prematurely,” reads the page introduction. “It is specifically stated that the joystick on certain PS5 DualSense controllers will automatically detect movement if the joystick is not controlled and the game interferes.”Reports have surfaced over the past few days about alleged power on PS5 DualSense controllers, although at this stage it is not clear how wide an issue it is. CSK & D’s questionnaire is probably an attempt to find out just before a formal lawsuit begins.

CSK & D is facing a class action lawsuit against Nintendo, which was forced into arbitration after a judge refused to dismiss the case – a case that began with a similar survey among users. This is one of a number of worldwide cases over and investigations into driving away Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controllers.

Recent patents have suggested that Sony wants to upgrade the DualSense, although the patterns do not mention changes to the analog stick design. We gave the DualSense a 9/10 review and said, “Sony has both made a more comfortable gaming panel for traditional gaming and introduced a lot of exciting features.”
