PS5 developers can now add Denuvo Anti-Cheat to their games

Denuvo Anti-Cheat has joined the PlayStation 5 Tools and Middleware app, hoping to help developers combat fraudsters on the platform. Unveiled in a press release by Denuvo creator Irdeto, the company announced that game publishers and developers will be able to use their cheat technology to ‘end fraud’ on PlayStation 5.

“Denuvo, the leader in video game protection, is offering its Anti-Cheat solution through this program to publishers and developers whose games are available on PlayStation 5,” reads the release. Denuvo argues that their instruments will enable developers to protect their investment, when “about 70% of their revenue is earned in the first two weeks after the launch of a game.” Many developers run the risk of losing their player base if a game is overrun by fraudsters.Irdeto said that Denuvo’s technology enables developers to secure an online game as well as safely reward offline progress, noting that it’s already used in a number of PlayStation 5 launch games (though this is not clear which does not). The company reiterated that its technology ‘has no negative impact on gaming performance’, noting that it has protected ‘more than 2 billion unique gaming installations’ across all gaming platforms.

Denuvo was previously controversial in the gaming community. id Software recently added Denuvo Anti-Cheat and later removed it from Doom Eternal following online backlash from players. Denuvo Anti-Sabotage, a separate anti-piracy tool, has been increasingly worrying, with developers and gamers citing performance issues.
