PS5 Custom faceplate maker shows easy mounting in new video

PlayStation 5 owners currently have no option to swap their console front panels, but that may change in the near future thanks to the red, black, and blue options from CMP Shells. The third-party manufacturer, previously sold via the website “Platestation.com”, was forced to cancel pre-orders in November, citing the threat from Sony. However, the company has applied for a patent for its design, and will apparently be able to sell these faceplates without fear of legal action. According to CMP’s website, the faceplates have a slightly different design than that of Sony, which also offers excellent ventilation.

An Instagram video of the CMP Shells faceplates being cut on the PS5 can be found below.

From the video, it looks like the faceplates should be pretty easy to cut up! The company allows players to choose between discs that are compatible with both the digital and physical versions of the console. Customers have additional options in addition to the faceplate covers, including sheets that allow them to change the color of the centerpiece and the controller.

Only 1,000 units of each shell are offered, and they can be purchased for $ 49.99. Fans who want the controller to match the console can get a controller as part of a bundle containing the shells and a vinyl waistband for $ 69.99. Midpiece strips are also sold separately for $ 15, so buyers can mix and match as they please. More information can be found on the company’s website here.

It will be interesting to see if the legal issues are completely sorted out or not! CMP Shells looks very confident that Sony will not be able to stop the faceplates from being sold this time, and expects them to start shipping by the end of February. It remains to be seen whether Sony is considering offering an official option to replace the PS5 faceplates, but it looks like it may have been beaten over this. Those interested in purchasing the shells will have to keep their fingers crossed that everything will go as planned this time.
