Prosecutors in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Wednesday demanded a new arrest warrant for Kyle Rittenhouse, the teenager accused of killing two people during a protest on August 25 against police shooting at Jacob Blake, a black man who now paralyzed from below. Prosecutors said Rittenhouse violated the terms of his $ 2 million mortgage by moving without notifying the court or providing his new address. After Kenosha detectives were returned to Rittenhouse’s address as undeliverable on January 28, prosecutors said.
It is “extremely unusual for an accused to stand trial on a charge of first-degree murder in Kenosha County for placing a cash payment and being released pending trial,” prosecutors said in their motion. “Rarely do accused murderers rarely walk around.” Along with Rittenhouse’s arrest, they asked the court to increase his mortgage by $ 200,000, noting that Rittenhouse has no financial interest in the mortgage and that he has no incentive to cooperate as his $ 2 million mortgage was paid from a “dubious internet fundraising campaign. because” he is already facing the most serious possible charges and life imprisonment. “
Rittenhouse’s attorney, Mark Richards, responded Wednesday night, saying his client was in an unknown “safe house” due to death threats and “kept in constant touch” with his attorneys, if not the courts. He said he offered to provide prosecutors with the new address if they would keep it a secret, and they did not want to.
Rittenhouse, now 18, is accused of fatally shooting Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, and Anthony Huber, 26, and wounding a third man. He says he shot in self-defense. Prosecutors last month tried to change the terms of his bail after video footage showed him drinking with a group of Proud Boys at a bar in Wisconsin and flashing signs with white power. It’s legal for 18-year-olds to drink in pubs in Wisconsin if a parent is present, and Rittenhouse’s mother was apparently in the bar with him.
