Progressive Congresswomen Alexandria Ocaio-Cortez of New York and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota called on Republican Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri to resign on Friday over the riot in the Capitol – and a new poll shows that most of his constituents wants him to leave office immediately.
Pro-Trump protests erupted into chaos when gunmen stormed the Capitol building after violently clashing with authorities on January 6. Hawley faced severe setbacks because he was the first GOP senator to publicly support President Donald Trump’s challenge of the 2020 election result.
While he was ready to contest the Congress that crowned the election of President Joe Biden, Hawley was photographed at the time raising a fist for protesters in the east side of the Capitol.
‘Haai Sen @HawleyMO, I hate it to break it to you, but it’s actually you. You raised your fist in solidarity with white supremacists who attacked our Capitol, “Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.” Although you may regret politically what you have revealed about yourself, you still have no place in public office. Thank. “

Omar agrees with Ocasio-Cortez’s remarks. “Thank!” she tweeted.
Democrats called Hawley a “rebel” because he supported Trump’s unverified allegations of widespread voter fraud and objected to Congress confirming the outcome of the election campaign.
A poll by Data for Progress, which surveyed 571 likely voters in Missouri from Jan. 10 to 12, found that 51 percent of respondents in the state want Hawley to “resign immediately” – including 91 percent of Democrats, 52 percent of independents and 20 percent of Republicans. Meanwhile, 49 percent of respondents did not think Hawley should resign.
Protesters gathered outside Hawley’s office in Missouri on Tuesday as opposition to the legislature escalated in his homeland following the Capitol uprising.
The American Federation of Government Officials (AFGE), a trade union, organized the protest during which citizens demanded that Hawley resign.
According to KSDK, some protesters said the Republican had ‘blood on his hands’.
The event has days after the Kansas City Star Hawley accused him of having ‘blood on his hands’. Missouri Democratic Congresswoman Cori Bush also tweeted last week “you are not talking to us … you have blood on your hands.”
In addition, Steve Schmidt, co-founder of the Lincoln project, announced this week that the group will launch a campaign to reduce donations for Hawley.
Schmidt said in a tweet Tuesday: “We will be buying a full-page ad in Missouri newspapers with all the Hawley donors claiming their money back. We will also be buying ads that focus on the Hawleys’ continued funders. [sic] revolt and riot. ‘
Last week, Hawley’s office said he would “never apologize for voting for the millions of Missourians and Americans who care about the integrity of our election.”
The senator also condemned the violent siege of the Capitol: ‘In this country, in the United States of America, we can not say emphatically that violence is not the way to bring about change … There is no place for it in the United States not. “
