Production of Chevy Corvette stops for the fourth time due to supplier problems

Conclude. Again.

Production of the 2021 Chevrolet C8 Corvette Stingray was closed again. If you do not keep up (as I am), this is now the fourth time that General Motors has suspended production of the sports car, and according to a report by Corvette Blogger on Thursday, workers will not return to start building the car. car until February 8th. The shutdown apparently begins on February 1st.

Chevrolet confirmed the closure and said in a statement: ‘Due to a temporary issue of spare parts, we can confirm that Bowling Green Assembly will not be producing the week of February 1st. Our supply chain, manufacturing and engineering teams are working closely with our supply base to mitigate any further impact on production, and we expect the plant to resume operations on Monday, February 8th. ”

The brand did not talk about what there is actually a shortage, and so it is not clear what led to the disruption this time. When production was halted for a third time in November, Chevy declined to disclose what parts shortages caused the shutdown. It is therefore unlikely that we will learn more this time.

Like I said, the eighth generation Corvette has had a rocky road since GM unveiled the mid-range sports car. A United Auto Workers Strike Originally pushed production up by a few months, and when production finally came off the ground, the coronavirus pandemic struck. GM has joined almost every other major carmaker to halt car production to slow the spread of the virus in March took Corvette production offline with it. GM also had a week long strike last October for other supplier issues.
