Pro-Trump protesters, DC police clash near White House

Police in Washington, DC clashed with protesters late Tuesday night during a rally in support of President TrumpDonald Trump Warnock defeats Loeffler in the run-up to the Senate in Georgia. Police said they made six arrests from 9 p.m., NBC News reported. They charged several individuals with various offenses, including carrying firearms without a license, possession of unregistered ammunition and possession of an unregistered firearm. Some protesters were also accused of assaulting a police officer, the network reported.

In photos and videos taken near the city’s newly formed Black Lives Matter plaza, police use pepper spray on protesters, some of whom are seen pushing officers out and shouting at them.

Several people appear to have been injured or bleeding as a result of the collision just north of the White House site.

Hundreds gathered earlier in the day for a rally called “March for Trump / Save America,” and thousands more are expected to gather near the Capitol building Wednesday before Congress’s vote to confirm the outcome of the presidential election

DC police and federal authorities have said in recent days that they are monitoring the presence of extremist groups among the crowds that are expected to attend protests in the country’s capital this week. The national guard was deployed in the district as a precautionary measure.

Earlier this week, the leader of the Proud Boys, an extremist hate group, was arrested by DC police and charged with vandalism of a historic Black church in the city during an earlier protest.
