Priyanka Chopra Jonas said that a bone operation changed her nose and led to her falling out of two films at the beginning of her acting career.

“I felt depressed and hopeless,” Chopra Jonas said of the surgical error in her new memoir, “Unfinished,” which was released Tuesday.

In the book, the actress set out her rise, which began when she was crowned Miss World in January 2000 at the age of 17 and later that year won the title Miss World.

Following her success in the competition, Chopra Jonas began her acting career in India with a series of films. More than a decade later, she had a breakthrough in the US when she starred in the ABC series “Quantico”, which was the first time a South Asian actor starred in an American TV series program.

But before starting her career in the entertainment industry, Chopra Jonas learned in the summer of 2001 that there was a polyp – a benign growth – in her nasal cavity, which required surgery to be removed. She first became aware of the problem when she had a ‘persistent head cold’ followed by breathing problems.

“Fortunately, a polypectomy sounds like a fairly routine procedure. Unfortunately, it was not,” the actor wrote in her memoirs.

Chopra Jonas said the doctor “accidentally shaved the bridge off my nose and the bridge collapsed.” When the operation ended and she looked at the result, she and her family said ‘terrified’.

“My original nose was gone,” recalls Chopra Jonas. “My face looked completely different. I was not me.”

“Every time I looked in the mirror, a stranger looked back at me, and I did not think my sense of self or my self-esteem would recover from the blow,” she added.

The star “We Can Be Heroes” said the situation is exacerbated by the public inquiry and the rumors that have spread.

Around the same time, Chopra Jonas wrote, her prospective acting career was in jeopardy when she was fired from two out of four films she signed for after “the producers heard rumors that I looked different after the operation.”

“As if the physical and emotional pain of the original and subsequent corrective surgeries was not enough, it was a terrible blow,” Chopra Jonas wrote, explaining that these films were supposed to be her first.

“My career, a career that is so much based on physical appearance, was over before it really started,” the actor said.

Chopra’s role in the Hindi film “The Hero: Love Story of a Spy” was also limited to a supporting role. She made her film debut in the fourth project for which she initially drew, a Tamil film entitled “Thamizhan.”

According to the actor, the experience on the set was a positive experience in which she regained confidence.

As for her nose, Chopra Jonas said it has normalized over time after a number of corrective surgeries. ‘

“I got used to this face,” she said. “Now when I look in the mirror, I’m not surprised anymore. I made peace with this slightly different self.”
