According to The Daily Princetonian, America’s oldest collegiate debate association has voted to deprive Senator Ted Cruz of his highest honor.

The American Whig-Cliosphic Society of Princeton University has accepted a motion to withdraw the James Madison Award for Distinguished Public Service awarded to Cruz in 2016, the newspaper reported.

Members of the association proposed the motion because they were dissatisfied with Cruz’s support for unfounded claims for voter fraud in the 2020 election and the January 6 Capitol attack.

The award – introduced in 1960 – is given to individuals who, according to the association’s website, ‘took up the difficult but just cause of dedicating their lives to the betterment of society’.

This is the first time in the history of the society that members have voted to revoke the award, The Daily Princetonian said.

After a 90-minute debate, 37 people voted in favor of repeal, 32 voted not to repeal, and five people abstained, the newspaper reported.

Cruz graduated from Princeton in 1992 and is considered a brilliant orator in his youth.

According to the Trustees, the Association’s Board will now decide whether the award should be formally revoked, according to The Daily Princetonian. They are expected to approve.

Cruz’s approval rating has risen over the past few weeks. An indefinite trip to Cancun while his home state of Texas experienced a catastrophic winter storm cost him in the ballot box.

Its approval rating dropped from +6 to -5 between February 18 and 28, according to a Morning Consult poll of more than 2,000 registered voters.

Cruz’s reputation is also being tarnished by his refusal to accept the 2020 presidential election result.

The senator spearheaded the Senate’s GOP effort to protest the certification of President Joe Biden’s victory. Several lawmakers have demanded that Cruz resign after a pro-Trump mob violently stormed the Capitol minutes after delivering a speech on the Senate floor.
