Princess Eugenie is named after Prince Philp and a distant royal grandfather

Princess Eugenie keeps her grandfather’s name alive with her newborn son, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank.

The 30-year-old British royal shared her son’s name with the public 11 days after his birth in an Instagram message.

“Thank you for so many wonderful messages. Our hearts are full of love for this person, words cannot express,” reads the headline of Eugenie along with three recent photos of her and her husband Jack Brooksbank looking over their new son.

The royal family’s social media accounts did not waste time telling the good news.

“Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank have announced that they have named their son August Philip Hawke Brooksbank,” The Royal Family tweeted on Saturday, February 20th. “The couple was touched by the good wishes they received with the birth of their first child, and are delighted to share this first photo as a family.”

August, who was born on February 9, was initially 11th in a row but was moved to 12th place after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced they were expecting a second child last week.

Despite the adjustment to the succession, the son of Princess Eugenie is the namesake of her grandfather Prince Philip and her fourth great-grandfather Prince Albert Augustus Charles Emmanuel of Saxony-Coburg and Gotha (1819 to 1861).

Her son’s name also honors her husband’s distant great-grandfather, Rev. Edward Hawke Brooksbank, according to an Instagram story she shared.

August’s delayed acquaintance with the world comes days after the news broke that Princess Eugenie had given birth to her son via C-section due to complications arising from the scoliosis operation she had performed in her youth.

An insider told People magazine that the young royal and new mother were ‘doing well’ on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Prince Philip, 99, was admitted to hospital on Tuesday night as a precaution after falling ill with an unspecified ailment, according to a palace statement.

Princess Eugenie and her family live in Frogmore Cottage, the renovated house that briefly belonged to Prince Harry and Meghan.

On top of that, the news of Princess Eugenie comes one day after Buckingham Palace issued a statement confirming that Prince Harry and Meghan “walk away from the work of the royal family.”

“The honorary military appointments and royal protections held by the Duke and Duchess will therefore be returned to her majesty before being redistributed among working members of the royal family,” the statement read. “Although everyone is saddened by their decision, the Duke and Duchess remain many beloved members of the family.”
