Prince William was once chased by a police dog on Queen Elizabeth’s estate

Prince William was once mistaken for a royal offender!

PC Jon Chandler, who is retiring from Norfolk Police, has reflected on his 30 years of service at the Eastern Daily Press – including one eventful evening when his dog ‘knocked on the door’ of a granddaughter of ‘Queen Elizabeth’ in Sandringham, the estate where the royals traditionally gather for Christmas.

“I had a particularly interesting evening when I walked around the site with my dog and he chased the future King of England,” Chandler told the outlet. “It was late at night and Prince William was walking to the garages and the dog picked up his scent and loaded it up behind him.”

Fortunately, Prince William took the incident ‘in good humor’.

“It could have gone ugly wrong if he was bitten, but luckily the dog did what he had to do, and just stood back and barked at him,” Chandler recalls. “It was an unforgettable night.”

Like many members of the royal family, Prince William (38) is a dog lover. Unfortunately, he and Kate Middleton announced in November that they had lost their family dog, a black cocker spaniel named Lupo.

William and Kate first welcomed Lupo into their family in 2012, about a year before the birth of their first son, Prince George. Lupo later starred with George in the portraits of the third royal’s third birthday.

“Very sad last weekend our dear dog, Lupo, passed away. He has been the heart of our family for the past nine years and we will miss him so much. – W&C,” they wrote on social media.

Prince William is not the only royal who has been mistaken as an outsider during an outing. Queen Elizabeth once called a guard at Buckingham Palace who could have shot her after confusing her during a late-night walk for an intruder, The Times of London report.

If she struggles to sleep, the 94-year-old royal will occasionally go outside and make a turn, according to the exhaust valve. During one such three-hour outing inside the palace walls, the patrolman came across a “figure in the dark” and, according to the newspaper, assumed the worst.

However, when he calls to see who is there, it turns out to be the queen herself.

“Blood hell, Your Majesty, I almost shot you,” the guard apparently told her after realizing his mistake.

“That’s all right,” she replied. “Next time I’ll call through beforehand so you do not have to shoot me.”
