Sophie, Countess of Wessex, shed new light on Prince Philip’s last hours after his death at the age of 99.
Prince Edward’s wife spoke outside the Royal Chapel of All Saints in Windsor on Sunday, where she and other members of the royal family attended a service on Sunday to mourn the loss of the Duke of Edinburgh.
The royal (56) sketched a calm and ‘peaceful’ picture of Philip’s last hours and told Sky News that, although shocking, the departure of the queen’s husband was still a dignified moment.

Prince Philip’s last hours were “peaceful”, according to the Countess of Wessex.

“It was right for him and, you know, it was so gentle. It was as if someone had taken him by the hand, and then he left. Very, very calm and that’s all you want for someone, isn ‘t it?’ she said.
The Countess of Wessex continues: “So I think it’s so much easier for the person who goes than the people who stay behind. We all sit here and look at each other and go ‘it’s awful’. But just look at all the tributes. It’s just wonderful. ‘

She joins the many royals who have spoken out to pay tribute to the late Duke of Edinburgh. Recently, his grandson Prince William spoke out to honor him before his funeral on April 17th.
“My grandfather’s age of life was defined by service – to his country and Commonwealth, to his wife and queen, and to our family,” his statement begins.

I will always be grateful that my wife spent so many years getting to know my grandfather and for the kindness he showed her.
“I will take for granted the special memories that my children will always fetch of their great-grandfather in his carriage, and see for himself his contagious sense of adventure as well as his mischievous humor!”
