Prince Philip’s last days: a blanket on his lap, the sun on his face, the queen by his side

According to a new report, Prince Philip slept many of his last days, but in his best waking hours he soaked in the sun with a blanket on his lap and Queen Elizabeth by his side, according to a new report.

And she was at his bedside when she arrived at Windsor Castle at the age of 99 at the end of Friday morning, the British Telegraph reported on Philip.

According to the Telegraph, the Duke of Edinburgh insisted he die in his own bed.

“There were moments of great clarity and joyful togetherness,” even at the end, writes Richard Kay, editor-in-chief of the Daily Mail and a former royal correspondent and gossip columnist there.

He was able to walk, although he was difficult and used a cane.

“Sometimes he allowed himself to be pushed into a wheelchair, but staff were very careful to suggest it,” Kay wrote.

“When it first appeared in the private room, he shouted, ‘Get the bloody thing out of my sight,'” an assistant said.

Philip ate little, according to Kay’s report, and he stopped the 07:30 morning tea traditionally delivered to a maid or a maid at his bedside. And he refused many of the other bowls of food that would be brought later in the day.

At the very end, his last wish was fulfilled – to die in the comfort of home instead of in hospital, as a royal source told The Post.
