Prince Philip’s death came during the wedding anniversary of son Charles to Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall

Queen Elizabeth II’s 73-year-old husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, died on Friday at the age of 99 on a special day for the royal family.

April 9 was the 16th anniversary of his eldest son, Prince Charles’ marriage to Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and now the day is even more important.

The Prince of Wales (72) and Camilla Parker Bowles (73) were married in 2005 in Windsor Castle. Given the fact that the two were both divorced at the time, the couple held a civil marriage ceremony followed by a blessing at Windsor Castle instead of a traditional church service.

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip chose not to attend the wedding ceremony for Charles, but each was at the Service of Prayer and Dedication in the St. George Chapel.
