LONDON – Queen Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II, was transferred to another hospital on Monday after being admitted almost two weeks ago.
Buckingham Palace said in a statement that doctors “will continue to treat him for an infection, as well as to test and observe for an existing heart condition.”
“The duke remains comfortable and responds to treatment, but is expected to remain in hospital until at least the end of the week,” the statement said.
Philip, who is officially the Duke of Edinburgh, is 99 years old. He received treatment at the private King Edward VII Hospital. He will now be in St Bartholomew’s Hospital run by the National Health Service. According to its website, Barts Heart Center is the largest specialized cardiovascular service in Europe.
The last statement made by the palace was Tuesday when it was said the duke was “comfortable and responding to treatment.” It does not mention the type of infection he had, nor does it say anything about its severity, although it does say that he is expected to stay for a few more days.
The day the statement was made public, Philip’s son, Prince Edward, said his father was ‘much better’.
‘He’s looking forward to coming out with the most positive thing. So we keep our fingers crossed, ”Edward told Sky News.
Prince Charles, the firstborn of the royal couple and heir to the throne, visited his father on 20 February.
The queen performed her duties in the hospital during Philip. Last week, she urged the public to get the Covid-19 vaccine in a video call with medical officials.
“Once you had a vaccine, you had a feeling that you knew you were being protected, which I think is very important, and as far as I could tell, it was pretty harmless,” the queen said.
