Prince Harry, Prince William will not walk side by side at Prince Philip’s funeral: palace

Prince Harry and Prince William do not walk side by side on Saturday, following their coffin from their grandfather Prince Philp.

Buckingham Palace on Thursday unveiled the broad outlines of the funeral program for Queen Elizabeth II’s husband, who passed away on April 9 at 99. The palace revealed that William and Harry’s cousin, Peter Phillips, would walk among the princes as they took the coffin to St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, west of London.

The brothers will also sit apart for the service itself, with the Duke of Cambridge next to Peter Phillips and the Duke of Sussex next to Lord Snowdown, reports Harper’s Bazaar.

Palace officials declined to comment on whether William and Harry’s position was an attempt to curb family tensions, which escalated after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex gave an explosive interview to Oprah Winfrey in March. . The tell-all was watched by nearly 50 million people worldwide.

The couple suggested that a namesake of the royal family make a racist remark to Harry (36) before the birth of their child Archie in 2019.

Harry, 36, later explained that his grandparents did not comment.

Although the brothers will not walk side by side, it will reduce the chance of awkward moments between the couple who are still dealing with a strained relationship since Harry’s decision to relinquish royal duties last year.

Prince Charles, the heir to the throne and the father of the princes, will lead the procession of 15 members with his sister, Princess Anne.

Meghan Markle, 39, who is pregnant and lives with Harry in California, is not coming to the funeral on the advice of her doctor.

The brothers were closely watched as Saturday’s funeral would almost certainly remind the couple of their shared grief at another royal funeral more than two decades ago. As young boys, they both walked behind the coffin of their mother, Princess Diana, in London in 1997 during a ceremony held around the world.

Harry had earlier told Winfrey, 67, that his relationship with Charles, 72, and William, 38, had broken down.

According to Harry, the royal family cut him off financially in early 2020 after he planned to retire from his roles. But he was able to afford security for his family because of the money Diana left behind.

Harry expressed his displeasure at the restrictions placed on members of the royal family – who played a key role in his decision to relinquish his duties as a senior member.

“My father and my brother, they are all trapped,” he said. “They can not leave. And I have great sympathy for that. ‘

After the interview aired, William became the first British royal to speak out on allegations of disorderly conduct by his brother and sister-in-law.

During a visit to a school in East London with his wife Kate Middleton, William told reporters who confronted him: “We are very much not a racist family.”

After Harry and Markle got married in May 2018 in Windsor Castle, the royal family seemed to be welcoming the Duchess of Sussex, a glamorous former TV star. The pair are seen as a fresh young face for the monarchy of an increasingly multicultural nation.

It did not take long before the fairy tale unraveled.

The couple relinquished royal duties last year and eventually settled in California, saying they wanted to escape the racist coverage and unwanted invasion of their privacy by the British media.

During the interview, the duke and duchess told that they are expecting a girl who should be this summer.
