Prayer watch held outside NY Hospital for rapper DMX

WHITE PLAINS, NY (AP) – Supporters and family of rapper DMX chanted his name and prayed outside New York Hospital on Monday, where he remained alive.

The 50-year-old was admitted to hospital on Friday, after a heart attack.

The crowd outside White Plains Hospital shouted ‘DMX! DMX! ”And at the request of the keynote speaker crossed their arms in the shape of an X. The sobs of a woman resounded when those in the audience heard a recording of the rapper, whose birth name is Earl Simmons.

Simmons’ longtime lawyer, Murray Richman, said Sunday the rapper was admitted to the intensive care unit, but he is not sure what caused the heart attack.

DMX made its rap debut in 1998, releasing seven albums in a career that included three Grammy nominations. He has also acted in several films.

But drug abuse has been a struggle for him over the years, including in 2019 when he canceled shows to go to a rehabilitation center.

Nevertheless, he maintained his position among fans. An online face-off last year with co-rapper Snoop Dogg as part of the Verzuz series garnered more than 500,000 viewers.
