Power outages affect tens of thousands across Brazos Valley

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Many people in the Brazos Valley were without power Monday morning after the Texas Electric Reliability Board (ERCOT) instructed state-of-the-art electrical services to set up rollouts to rebalance the electrical network.

ERCOT declared an “alarm alarm three” in the state, saying interruptions were needed. Role interruptions are temporary interruptions of electrical services that can last between 10-45 minutes per neighborhood and are made necessary due to an imbalance between the electrical charge and the available generation due to the cold weather.

Bryan Texas Utilities reported nearly 23,000 outages Monday morning. Rotating interruptions will continue through the morning, but BTU said some interruptions are weather related.

MidSouth Electric Co-Op, a utility company operating in Grimes, Madison, Montgomery and Walker counties, reported 2,039 outages on Monday morning.

Navasota Valley Electric, which serves the counties of Robertson, Leon, Freestone, Limestone, Brazos, Falls, Madison, Hill and McLennan, reported more than 10,000 outages.

Bluebonnet Electric serves many provinces in Central Texas, including Washington, Lee, Burleson, and Milam. In these four provinces, 6,446 power outages were reported.

ERCOT said they would expect interruptions until Monday morning, but that could take until the severe weather ends. They ask all consumers to save their energy consumption.

“Every network operator and every electrical business is currently fighting to restore power,” said Bill Magness, President and CEO of ERCOT.
