Possible military explosives wash up on Florida beach

A possible military explosive training could ashore early Sunday morning on a beach in Florida.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office said a deputy on patrol discovered the device Sunday at 2:30 a.m. on the beach in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, about 30 miles north of Miami.

“Deputies from BSO secured the area around the article and cordoned off a small section of the beach,” the sheriff said in a statement.

The device had the word ‘inert’ written on it, but the authorities at the scene called a bomb squad and the air force ‘out of a caution’.

It was determined that the water mine was safe and that it had been removed from the beach, the sheriff said. The beach was then reopened.

The origin of the device remains unclear.
