Switch’s release scheme may seem a bit light at the moment, but it would be reasonable to assume that there are still projects underway yet to be announced – and we have probably confirmed the assumption of Christophe Gandon, managing director. of Games at Virtuos, the studio responsible for such beautiful third-party Switch gates as Dark Souls, Starlink and LA Noire, among others.
Gandon spoke on the news that the Switch has surpassed the 3DS to be the honor of being Nintendo’s fifth best-selling console of all time.
2021 has begun with the continued rise of the Nintendo Switch as it now catches up with the 3DS life sales. There are many reasons for its success, including fantastic first party games and a clever design that finally crosses the hand / console separation. What really sets the Switch apart, though, is its continued support from third parties. Investing in the Switch ecosystem no longer means you miss out on some of the biggest IPs in the world, with franchises like Bioshock and XCOM sitting in the same content library as Mario and Zelda. This can be attributed to Nintendo’s new approach to working with third parties, and their desire to make the Switch a welcoming home for developers of all shapes and sizes. We were able to make good use of Nintendo’s tools to make games look and work well on their hardware, and are excited about new projects ahead for this summer and beyond. There will still be a lot coming from the Switch family.
Gandon clearly suggests that Virtuos has irons on fire for 2021, but his use of the phrase “Switch family” is also interesting – he could possibly hint that we will get new Switch hardware in the near future, some time rumors (despite Nintendo’s best efforts to ignore it)? Or maybe he just means the Switch and Switch Lite?
