Porsche 911 Safari unofficial delivery lifts our spirits

The versions we present are mostly presented as pure fiction works with no hope of ever seeing production. The tall Porsche 911 you see at the top of the page is a version, and yes, it’s unofficial. This time, however, it is most likely you will see this car on the road one day.

Motor.es gave us the nod to displaying this version, which features a brand new 911 Safari coming straight from Porsche’s factory in Stuttgart. Of course, the automotive world is well acquainted with off-road-friendly 911s, but it’s usually about post-conversion, rent applications or one-off constructions like the Safari 911 that Porsche built in 2012. Recent espionage recordings of lift 911 test vehicles at the Nürburgring tell us that it will not be a one-off creation again. In fact, this version is based on the spy photos.

As such, this 911 Safari version not only adds ground clearance and wheelbase. We have seen different front and rear phases designed to provide better approach and departure angles, and this is pictured here on the back. The license plate moves in the same way as you get on a 911 Turbo, but the bumper is not equipped with the Turbo aero items. It sits a little shallower, and when you look at the wheel arches, you see rubbery finish to protect against damage. We see the same features on real 911 Safari test cars.

What drives the 911 Safari? This information is still a mystery, although we do not expect the insane levels of the 911 Turbo to gain power. The 443-horsepower turbocharged six-car of the Carrera 4S, combined with four-wheel drive, would create an extraordinarily fast vehicle to tackle loose surfaces. Even with four-wheel drive and a proper set of gravel field tires, such an animal would be absolutely handful to stay under control. We’re fine with that.

So now the waiting game begins. We have not yet had many encounters with the actual 911 Safari prototypes, and because we carry knowledge of Porsche’s long public evaluation time, it will only see the light of day in 2022. If this version is an indication of the final product, it will have to wait.
