PopSockets Goes MagSafe – The Verge

PopSockets announces that its iconic phone cases are compatible with MagSafe. When Apple announced that accessories with MagSafe could be attached to the iPhone 12, many people immediately thought of PopSockets – including the company itself, which announced that it was adding compatibility. Now it’s finally at the point where it’s bringing out an announcement and a release window.

PopSockets plans to bring MagSafe to many of its products, but first it’s the famous PopGrip. If you want to charge your phone wirelessly, you do not need to buy PopSockets’ specialized wireless charger. The MagSafe version has a larger base than many PopSockets users are used to, probably to make room for the ‘smooth’ rubber bottom. Hopefully, this will prevent PopSocket from slipping when you go in and out of your pocket, as Apple’s own MagSafe wallet is somewhat notorious.

Speaking of wallets, PopSockets also announces a magnetic version of its PopWallet Plus, which is actually a wallet with a built-in PopSocket. Like Apple’s version, it will contain a shield that is meant to protect all cards that can be erased by magnets.

In addition, PopSockets unveils two containers that MagSafe will use: one for the home (called ‘Multi-Surface’) and one for the car. The company notes that the new PopGrips will work with existing PopSocket containers, but that the new containers will work magnetically, but it is not clear whether they will also use the PopSocket as an extra mechanical grip.

The personal announcement featured a number of other notable products, including an antimicrobial version of the PopGrip (it’s a sign of the times) and a multi-faceted PopGrip featuring the famous knife-maker SOG. The PopGrip and PopWallet Plus for MagSafe are expected to launch in the spring of 2021, and the PopMounts will arrive in the summer. No word on the price was announced.
