Pope Francis condemns travelers who lock up on the flight of COVID-19

Pope Francis on Sunday criticized travelers who were on vacation for escaping COVID-19 locks, saying they were more for “fun” than giving the suffering of others.

Francis said during a video address of the Apostolic Palace of the Vatican that he had read reports of people fleeing on board during the pandemic to vacation elsewhere.

“They did not think about those who stayed at home, about the economic problems of many people who were hard hit by the lockdown, about the sick – just about having a holiday and having fun,” Francis said.

The 84-year-old pontifex said their lack of compassion for others made him really sad.

“We do not know what 2021 will hold for us, but what we can all do together is a little more effort to take care of each other. “There is the temptation to just look after our own interests,” he said.

Francis’ remarks come after his traditional Angelus blessing, which is usually given from a window overlooking St. Peter’s Square but moved indoors to prevent crowds from gathering at the Vatican.
