Poll: Majority Iowans Do Not Want Grassley to Seek Re-Election

Five Senate Republicans have said they will not seek another term, which will create the potential for more competitive racing, especially in the swing states of Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Ohio.

The temporary emeritus of the Senate is considered particularly difficult. In his most recent game in 2016, Grassley won 60 percent of the vote, giving Democratic nominee Patty Judge 24 points.

The Des Moines Register / Mediacom poll showed Grassley’s favorite rating at 48 percent, which was consistent with recent polls dating back to June. However, compared to previous Iowa polls dating back to 1998, its favor in the state has been declining slowly but steadily, declining by 12 points since 2019.

The Des Moines Register / Mediacom poll among 775 adults in Iowa was conducted on March 7 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
