Political podcast: Did Joe Biden become happy in 2020?

The chaos surrounding the 2020 election meant that one story would often displace another story before we had time to process anything. The FiveThirtyEight Politics podcast, for example, planned to compile an audio documentary in March 2020 outlining the 72 hours between the South Carolina primary and Super Tuesday, when Joe Biden, then a candidate, went from underdog to virtually suspicion candidate has gone.

It never happened. The pandemic shut us down and completely strengthened our coverage plans. And this is not the only time we have sharpened our plans in 2020.

In this episode of the podcast, with the benefit of reflection and some time to breathe, Galen Druke reflects on the kind of important moments in the 2020 race with the authors of the new book, “Lucky: How Joe Biden Barely Won The Presidency. ”The book is the first major report of the 2020 campaign in its entirety and was written by Jonathan Allen, senior political analyst at NBC News, and Amie Parnes, senior correspondent for The Hill.
