Police identify Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, 21, as a suspect in the Boulder shooting

The suspect in the shooting at Boulder King Soopers was like Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa (21) of Arvada, authorities revealed on Tuesday.

He has been charged with ten counts of first-degree murder, Maris Harold, Boulder police chief, told a news conference.

Alissa, who was shot in the leg, was in a stable condition in a hospital and is expected to be released later Tuesday.

Michael Dougherty, district attorney in Boulder County, said authorities have not yet determined a motive, stressing that the investigation is still in its early stages.

The suspect’s brother, Ali Aliwi Alissa, told The Daily Beast that the suspect was ‘very antisocial’ and paranoid.

“Why did this happen?” Ask Dougherty. “We do not yet have the answer to that and the investigation is at a very early stage.”

The chief prosecutor also said Alissa was apparently the only suspect, and Harold added that he was not known to police before the massacre.

He will be transferred to Boulder County Jail later Tuesday and an affidavit and warrant will then be made public.

According to Doughtery, the suspect spoke to investigators but did not want to elaborate.

Authorities also requested someone with information to share it with the FBI.

The ten victims were also identified at the press conference – including the murdered Boulder police officer Eric Talley. According to Harold, they were 20 to 65 years old, and said the last body was removed from the scene Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.

Family members were notified about two hours later.

“I want to say to the community: ‘I am very sorry that this incident happened,’ said the principal with tears in her eyes, ‘and we will do everything in our power to ensure that this suspect has a thorough trial. and we do a thorough investigation. ”

Doughtery said Talley, who was the first officer on the scene, “died heroically.”

“He died in the line of fire to save people who were just trying to live their lives and go shopping for food,” he said. “And the man who shot them down will be held fully responsible.”

Meanwhile, Representative Joe Neguse, who represents the second district of Colorado representing Boulder, has dismissed other recent shootings in the state.

“It can not be our new normal,” he said. “We need to be able to feel safe in our grocery stores. We need to be able to feel safe in our schools, in our cinemas and in our communities. We need to see a change. ”
