PITCAIRN (KDKA) – A local police detective surrendered to charges after investigators said he pulled out his gun at a New Year’s Eve party and stabbed another man in the side.
Police say North Braddock police detective Craig Gibson handed himself over to officers in Pitcairn. After being held in jail in Allegheny County, court reports say Gibson posted bail. He is currently suspended without pay.
According to the criminal charge, witnesses told police that Gibson looked intoxicated when he showed up at a party uninvited on Thursday night. Police say he was with a friend.

According to the criminal charge, four witnesses said Gibson had his license plate visible and was carrying his rifle on his hip.
” A police officer who was off duty and swung a gun, and stabbed people with the gun out of his holster, ” Pitcairn police chief Scott Farally said.
According to police, people at the party asked him to put away his gun and badge because it was unnecessary, and it was then that investigators said Gibson pulled out the weapon and pushed it against a man’s side.
“He actually took the gun out of his holster and put it on the ribs of other individuals,” Farally said.

The victim and another man asked Gibson and his friend to leave.
The criminal charge reports that the two men even discussed how to disarm Gibson “if it were to start escalating after they told him to leave.”
However, police say Gibson and his friend both left after the friend suggested they leave.
No one was injured in the incident.
“How should we build the bond within the community if we have no integrity and we do these things to members of the community?” said Farally.
Gibson, of McKeesport, is facing charges of terrorist threats, simple assault, harassment and reckless threat.
“We have no problem with him. Good officer, do a lot of things here. When I heard what was happening, I was shocked, “said Isaac Daniele, North Braddock police chief. ‘We have done so much in the last month to the point where we have removed enormous amounts of heroin from the street. Something like that is a bit kicked off. ‘
Gibson has a pre-trial hearing for January 25th.
