Police continue to search for gunman after deadly shooting in Southwest Miami Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. Southwest Miami-Dade County police are investigating a late-morning shooting.

Authorities said three people were shot dead, one of whom was pronounced dead at the scene.

Family members told Local 10 that the shooter and the victims were all family members.

It happened in a house, and police were active in the area while searching for the person who pulled the trigger.

Miami-Dade police responded to the home near 294th Street and 142nd Avenue after reports of shots being fired just after 11 a.m. Saturday.

When officers arrived there, they discovered that three people had been shot, and one was dead.

“The other adult man and adult woman were transported by Miami Dade Fire Rescue to an area hospital in critical condition,” Miami Dade Police Detective Kristopher Welch said.

A surveillance video obtained by Local 10 News shows a neighbor helping an injured woman escape from the violence.

“I think he reacted like a hero because he lied to her and helped her put her over there without endangering her life,” said Julio Magallan, whose son-in-law is seen in the video and the woman who was shot helps. .

According to police, the 18-year-old gunman ran up from the house, asking officers to quickly set up a perimeter while searching for the suspect.

Officers combed the southwestern Miami Dade area with air and ground for the man, who police believe is armed and dangerous.

“Miami-Dade police found two firearms at the scene,” Det. Which. “Although we can not discount the possibility that the subject is still armed.”

As the search continued, detectives gathered clues and worked to find out what led to the shooting.

“There was an oral dispute in the home that escalated and led to shots,” Det said. Which.

Investigators said the gunman knew his victims, and family members told Local 10 News that they were all family members.

Local teenager Roy Ramos spoke to Mike Baker, uncle of the suspect. Baker said he is still trying to understand why his cousin, identified as Ruben, opened fire on his own family members.

“My cousin shot my father and my sister,” Baker said. “Now I just hear that my sister’s sister is dead.”

Police have yet to release a description of the suspect.

Baker’s message to his nephew was to stop running away from the police.

“I do not want anyone to hurt you, but what you did, you must go in, cousin,” Baker said.
