Police are looking for suspects after the owner of the Madeira store was shot dead on Tuesday night

MADEIRA, Ohio – The owner of Madeira Beverage was shot dead in his shop on Tuesday night, and police said the suspect is still at large.

Officers responded to Madeira Beverage in 6000 Kenwood Road for a report of a person shot just before 8pm, said Madeira police chief David Schaefer.

Police found the owner, a 68-year-old man, with a single gunshot wound. He was rushed to UC Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The suspected gunman, who may have been armed with a semi-automatic weapon, is 6 feet tall, weighs 240 pounds and was wearing black clothing with a red face mask, Schaefer said. It is unclear if anything was taken from the store, and police are now watching the video.

“It looks like they left in a vehicle,” Schaefer said. “We believe it is an isolated incident. The people of Madeira and the surrounding communities have no concerns.”

Tuesday was the second time the owner of Maderia Beverage was shot inside the store. In September 2012, authorities said William Hart shot the owner in the stomach several times during a robbery. The owner was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. His wife also worked when the store was robbed, and police threw a wine cellar at a wine cellar in 2012, according to a WCPO report.

Hart was arrested a few days later during a routine stop at Golf Manor, and he faced several charges, including robbery with aggravating circumstances and assault.
