Pokémon Trailer creates varied Mewtwos for all 18 types

For the past 25 years, Mewtwo has become one of the most recognized Pokémon of the franchise. The Psychic type has attracted fans since the days of Pokémon Red and Green, but it’s hard to say whether Mewtwo would be as enduring if it were based on one of the other Pokémon types. Earlier this month, artist Harry George created different types of variants for Squirtle on Instagram, and now the artist has done the same for Mewtwo! It’s really interesting to see the 18 different ways Mewtwo can be interpreted, and it’s clear that a lot of thought has gone into the process!

Harry George’s Instagram post can be found below.

Clearly, George has worked hard to capture Mewtwo’s essence, while also channeling details that keep each specific Pokémon type in mind. None of the types are listed on the post, but a quick look at each shape will help most Pokémon fans decipher which one is meant! There are very small details that can help viewers distinguish the difference between which dragon type and which fly, or which is meant to generate steel, and which one is electric.

In the Pokémon series, there is actually only one Mewtwo; the creature was created as a result of experiments performed with Mew’s genetic data on Cinnabar Island. It therefore seems unlikely that Mewtwo will soon get any regional variants, as it will not quite fit into the story of the series. Of course, it is always possible for Team Rocket or another group to try to repeat the experiments, this time with a different Pokémon type. Given Mewtwo’s popularity, it would not be a surprise to see how the creature gets a regional variant this way, and it may look like one of those created by George! For now, however, fans will just have to be content with the version that has existed since 1996.

In addition to Mewtwo and Squirtle, George has created several other pieces of Pokémon trailer art. More of the artist’s work can be found on their Instagram page, which you can find here.
